Stress is probably the most significant phenomena of the developed world and it appears almost daily in the press and television.  The following facts are an indication of the seriousness of the problem.  

1. Seven out of ten adults will need help with stress at some point in their lives.

2. It is estimated that 48% of deaths in the UK each year are due to an unhealthy lifestyle and stress-related illness.

3. A lot of stress is caused by increased workloads and reduced resources and support at work?

4. Bradford council was told that nearly 42% of its employees were suffering from “unacceptably high stress levels.”

5. 360 million working days are lost in the UK each year, an estimated half of which are caused by stress.

6. The cost of stress to the nation is about 10% of the Gross National Output of the UK.
